12A Liberal Arts Education

Liberal Arts Education is becoming more and more well known throughout the world. I believe there’s a lot to value in a liberal arts education. Having a liberal arts education means that you are exploring all different types of topics. Some colleges have it so depending on what your major is you only take courses working toward that degree. By having a liberal arts education you become a well rounded person because you’re able to think critically and connect different courses to one another based on your knowledge. I believe this type of education is very valuable because it gets you to take classes you would have never even thought about before. Some may think this is a waste of time but I think it’s extremely beneficial. Not only does it give you more knowledge in all topics but also you may learn that you want to look into different majors.

In one of the articles from the reading this week “Liberal Arts and the Work Place” it talks a lot about how employees value students that graduate from a liberal arts school. Employees want people who can write better, speak better, and reason better.  It’s easy to hire someone and tell them ho to do the job but someone from a liberal arts school has more innovation. Innovation is important in any work field because with technology and everything changing so rapidly, it’s important to have people who are able to create new ideas and invent new things. This article also states that employees value people that have knowledge on global issues and cultural diversities. All these traits that employers want all tie back to getting a liberal arts education.

In each of the readings from this week it continuously talks about the importance of critical thinking, writing, and communication skills. I think its good to stress the importance of these. Being a critical thinker is a great trait to have. It’s easy to know basic facts and be able to look things up on Google. But its more important to actually dig deep in your thinking no matter what it is. You need to look at things from different perspectives, that way your able to connect your thinking to other things in the result of creating something new. Communication skills are also important. You want your voice to be heard and people to understand what your standpoint is and where you’re coming from. To sum things up having a liberal arts education is very beneficial to all in my opinion. It definitely cant hurt you, it can only improve your knowledge.
