9A What's it like to be a Critical Thinker

Since the beginning of school I have been doing a lot of critical thinking in all my classes. It was a new concept to me and still is because in high school we didn’t do much of it. Critical thinking is analyzing things and going more into depth to find the deeper meaning. In order to find the deeper meaning you need to apply your own knowledge, evaluate and gather information, and do a lot of analyzing and reflecting. Critical thinking is an important skill to have. Is requires time and focus but it really helps to get your mind thinking in different perspectives, which will allow you to further your understanding upon things.
Thinking critically takes more time but it really does help your understanding. To think critically you need to break things down. For example if we were to think critically about this question, this is what we would do…

Why must every incoming freshman take an inquiry course?

Instead of just saying because its one of the requirements to get to the next tier you would analyze this question, like this…

I think students need to take this course because it’s about how to deal with college through your first year. It helps you find ways to deal with problems all freshman face. Like studying skills and habits, also things like social skills and how to get involved.

This is just an example; you could evaluate and analyze this question much further. But all in all it shows that by critical thinking you do take your thinking to a new level. Which includes looking at different perspectives. I have been applying critical thinking skills to almost all my courses. It’s a very good skill to have since it helps you get more engaged to what your talking about. You can never over analyze something but you can always look at things from different viewpoints.
