I would define inquiry as broadening your knowledge by
asking questions. It’s an important word to know because it has to do with this
class. One of the things we do in this class is listen to other people’s ideas
when they talk, hold discussions, and learn from each other. Another word I’ve
been looking at this week is “symbol” which we use in my Media and Everyday
Life course. Symbol is a word, image, gesture, or sound that stands for
(represents) a physical object, an idea, or a feeling. The vocab word symbol is
used in this course because we are talking about advertising and what some
companies do to attract more people. In my geography and conflict class I have learned
the term social order, which is maintained through domination by those with the
greatest access to resources. Inequality exists because those in control actively
defend their advantages. This term relates to my class because we are beginning
to read a book titled A Different Mirror, which will cover this word and
other topics.
